Steam Locomotive TOPS Running Numbers
Steam trains which run on the National Rail network are often referred to by either their name, or their running number. Unbeknownst to many, these steam locomotives run under a TOPS number as well.
You can find below, most steam locomotives which have, have been, or will be, mainline certified or have a boiler certificate for mainline operation. Mainline operational locomotives are allocated a TOPS number that begins with 98. These are not to be confused with on track plant track machines which also run under 98, but these are pre-appended with DR.
We have their running number in the left column, wheel configuration and class in the second, their TOPS number in the third column and their name in the last column.
