Uckfield sees regular class 171 DMUs working Uckfield to London Bridge services. The single line means they’re not particularly frequent. Usually once an hour or every half an hour. Pictured, a midnight UTU which tends to run every 4 or so months.

Newhaven Town Railway Station sees bi-weekly trains to Newhaven Marine aggregates terminal. Trains typically formed of JNA boxes, but can also be formed of HHA hoppers. Trains run empty into Newhaven Marine, via Newhaven Harbour, and then run loaded back to Acton, or Hither Green amongst other destinations (Crawley, Hoo, Neasden etc). Newhaven Town Yard (Newhaven Day Aggregates) sees a flow of aggregates from the Mendip quarries. Operated by Freightliner throughout the week, with the exception of Thursdays which is operated by DB Cargo taking flyash from the incinerator to Brentford (via Acton TC). Located a 5-10 minute walk just north of Clayton Tunnel, this bridge provides a good line of sight between Hassocks Railway Station, and Clayton Tunnel, on the Brighton Mainline. In terms of trains seen at this location, you’ll regularly see Thameslink class 700s and Southern class 377s. Lesser frequently, Gatwick Express class 387s will pass. No regular freight passes this
